Materuni, home to the Chagga tribe, offers an authentic glimpse into tribal village life just 15km from Moshi Town and at the gateway to Kilimanjaro National Park.
Your journey begins with a morning pickup in Arusha by our English-speaking guide, who will drive you to Materuni Village. Upon arrival, you’ll check in at the village office to start your adventure.
First on the agenda is a visit to the waterfalls, approximately a 40-minute walk from the village. As you trek, your guide will share insights into the Chagga culture, local village life, and the area’s rich fauna and flora. The path offers stunning views, and on a clear day, you might even catch a glimpse of Kilimanjaro’s summit. The waterfall, plunging over 80 meters, culminates in a beautiful pool perfect for a refreshing swim—so remember to bring your swimwear!
After relishing the natural beauty, you’ll head back to Materuni village for a traditional Chagga lunch and a taste of local banana beer, a unique cultural treat not to be missed.
The day doesn’t end there. Next, you’ll dive into the coffee experience. You’ll learn about the entire coffee-making process from cultivation to roasting. Participate in grinding the coffee, all while enjoying traditional Chagga songs and dances—an engaging way to connect with the culture. Before departing in the afternoon back to Moshi, savor the coffee you helped make and take in the views of the lush surrounding rainforest.
